Chapter 5
Erin’s P.
O.V.
“hey” Erin said to Liz as she walked by “you going to the Halloween dance with Ray?” Erin asked, she was surprised to hear Liz’s answer “ I dunno Ray hasn’t been acting like himself lately, I’m not so sure he’ll ask me” Liz said sounding kind of upset “of coarse he will!” Erin said doing her best to make Liz feel better about the situation “he loves you!, but I’m not so hot on detention so I’ve got to get to class” Erin said then called over her shoulder as she walked down the cramped school hallway “talk to him about it” “okay” Liz said, Erin really hoped she meant it. Then she began to wonder if Frank would ask her to go with him.
“Erin!” Frank yelled across school campus “Erin come here!” Erin looked around and finally spotted him. Then walked over to him, she gave him a little kiss, “ what?” she asked him putting a cute smile on her face. “you wanna go to the Halloween dance?” he asked, he seemed to be confident that she’d say okay, Erin loved that about him. “yea, sure” Erin replied “okay it’s on Friday ,so I guess I’ll pick up around 8:45?, it starts at nine. “ummm” Erin began to reply “that sounds good” she finished “okay, do want to, do something today? Like study for that big science quiz we have on Wednesday, or something?” Frank asked “um, I’ll call you when I get home kay?” “yea, okay” Frank said. Then kissed her lightly, and walked to the bus he rode every single day (unless he was going home with Erin in witch he would walk to Erin’s house). Erin walked off school grounds, and around the corner to her small, house.
Kaylana’s P.O.V.
Burn the sun! burn the light! Take take,,,,,
“hello?” Kaylana said like she did every time she answered her cell phone, she could never get used to looking before she flipped it open to hear one of her friends asking what their English homework was, or her mom telling her she couldn’t pick her up, or Gerard’s wonderful, wonderful, voice. “hey” Liz said in a sad voice
“what’s wrong?” Kaylana asked “has Gerard asked you to the dance?” Liz asked “yea” Kaylana replied “why do you ask?” “its just that I don’t think Ray is going to ask me” Liz said, Kaylana didn’t understand why Liz was so touchy. “of coarse he is why wouldn’t he ?” Kaylana asked highly confused “I don’t know he’s just been weird lately, I don’t know what’s wrong with him, what if he’s cheating on me?” “he’s NOT cheating on you” Kaylana assured her. “how do you know?” “he’s a nice guy he wouldn’t do that to you” “he just called my home phone, thanks, love you-bye.” click Kaylana heard nothing but empty silance
Liz’s P.O.V.
“hey” Liz said into the receiver “hey, Liz” Ray’s voice said “ya know the Halloween dance?” he asked “yea” “well I can’t pick you up cause my brother’s coming home so I’m not sure if I’ll be there on time or not, and I really don’t want to tell you that I’ll be there and not show up” “okay” Liz said not to sure where the conversation was going, “but I’ll be there so if you are too we can dance and hang out, is that okay?, I’m really sorry I couldn’t pick you and the whole nine yards but I guess it’s better than nothing” “yeah sure that’s great” “good” Ray said “hey do you want to come over?” Liz said “we could do our homework?” “okay I’ll be over in a minute” Ray replied . Liz was no longer worried about her relationship, whatever was wrong with Ray at first was obviously better, cause he no longer seemed so………….. Upset with himself or her.
Gerard’s P.O.V.
Gerard woke thinking of Kaylana, he looked at his clock: 3:37. He laid his head back down on his pillow in an attempt to fall back into his deep, peaceful sleep. Right when Gerard’s eyes got fluttery, and everything seemed to spin around him as he drifted from consciousness, the phone rang. Great! “who in the world is calling and friggin three in the morning” Gerard mumbled to him self. “hella?” Gerard said sounding tired and unhappy about being awake. “hey Gee, am I interrupting something?” Ray asked. “well, I’m awake now, what do you want?” Gerard asked “just to talk about something but I’ll talk to you about it tomorrow at school bye” Ray said before hanging up the phone. “well, that was a waist of time” Gerard said openly, to no particular person considering no one around was listening, just sleeping.
Liz’s P.O.V.
“hey Ray” Liz said coming from behind him, and intertwining her fingers in his. “hey” Ray said, it was Thursday one day before the Halloween Dance, where everything was expected to get a lot better for Liz and Ray. So naturally Liz was thrilled that this dance was only 24 hours away. “hey “ Ray replied, his had was big and callused, his hand almost completely covered hers. “so, is brother on the way here, now?” “yeah he’ll be here by tomorrow night” “Great!, would you be willing to introduce me to him?” Liz wondered what his brother was like, Ray had previously said that his brother was smart, good looking, kind, musically talented, and a really fun person to be around. Liz longed to meet the person Ray looked up to the most, and loved so much. “yea, I guess” Ray replied “okay, well I’ve got to go to class, so I’ll see you later.” Liz gave Ray a kiss to see if things were actually getting better. Ray grabbed her jaw so he could kiss her back before she walked away. It was better, Ray was back!
Frank’s P.O.V.
Frank walked along the side walk, on his way to Erin’s house. He might have drove if he hadn’t backed his car into a tree, therefore he was walking. He saw Erin walk out her front door “Frank!” she called “what are you doing here?!?” “oh nothing I just know someone who lives on this street, would you happen to know her?” he asked in his smart alicy way. “shut up, you know what I mean” Erin said with a smile and little kiss from her most favoritist guy in the world. “so are you still going to the dance with me tomorrow ?” Frank asked desperate for conversation. “no, I’m totally blowing my boyfriend of four months off!” Erin said sarcastically “I am shocked!” Frank said kissing her lips again “it’s a date” Erin declared.
Liz’s P.O.V.
It was the day of the dance, Liz was exploding with excitement and she didn’t really know why. She’d been to millions of dances before, why was this one so important? Truthfully she couldn’t answer her own question, that’s just the it was.
The day pasted fast and so did getting ready to go she was wearing a Mettalica tee shirt and straight-leg jeans with her hair down, simple but awesome. She waited on the front step of her house as she waited for her ride (Frank and Erin, in Erin’s dad’s truck) to show up. “hey guys” she said as she stepped up and into the tall gold S.U.V.. “hey” they replied simultaneously. They drove to the dance listening to music and chatting about everyday life. When they finally got there, Frank and Erin paid first, then Liz paid and walked around. After a second or two she saw a puff of brown hair from across the school cafeteria. She slowly walked toward it, then noticed that it was slow dancing with another girl. Liz was outraged. how could I have been so stupid? Liz wondered of coarse things weren’t better! She broke into tears, ran towards the exit sign, and burst out the door. She walked from the big brick building, unsure of where she was going and it slowly began to rain. The cafeteria door slammed shut again, but she kept walking until someone grabbed her shoulder “don’t even think about saying it wasn’t what it looked like, you were slow dancing with her Ray! And you lied to me! So don’t even begin to think sorry will make it all better, cause it won’t!” it began to pour as if she didn’t already have enough mascara running down face. Ray put his hand out to wipe away Liz’s tears but she slapped it so he wouldn’t touch her. She couldn’t bare to feel the warmth of the big, cozy hands that belonged to the love that was so strong but was now rapidly slipping away. “ baby, I screwed up…big time and I know that you don’t want to hear this but I really am sorry and I really do love you…if it makes you feel better we were dancing as friends?” “That explains why your hands were on her ass! Don’t try to butter me up and …” Liz’s words were lost in the roar of the on going storm, and were drowned in the tears that could fill oceans and feed the hungry. “it doesn’t matter what you do Ray ,I get the point “ Liz said raising her hands in the air “I’m not gonna hold on to some thing I can’t have, I give up, I surrender, you win!” she said walking backwards then turned her back and walked farther into the storm.
Erin’s P.O.V.
Erin had no idea what was going on, and had no idea why but she saw a soaked, weeping Ray come into the cafeteria. She slipped from Frank’s arms and ran toward him. “what’s wrong?” she demanded Ray’s words were hard to understand “Liz she was. .Liz! -was she-she-she camein and iwasdancingwithsamantha Why did I dance with Samantha?” Ray wept some more
And sat down at one of the chairs lined up against one wall, he held his head in his hands. Erin had never really seen Ray cry until now.” where is Liz?” Erin asked trying to help “she walked away” Ray said beginning to calm down. Erin, still clueless went to get Frank Maybe best friends are easier to talk to than best friend’s girlfriend .
Ray’s P.O.V.
Ray woke up the next morning smiling and singing, but stopped when he realized that he’d be spending the day with out the one he really loved. Ray thought about this until he began to cry. He cried and cried until he came to desperate measures: he picked up the phone with a shaky hand and dialed his girl….ex-girlfriends number. At the first ring he cleared his voice so it wouldn’t sound like he’d been crying, but when Liz sighed softly and said “hello?” he again began to cry, “hey-hey b-Liz.” “Ray?” “I’m sorry” They said at the same time, “I should’ve been more understanding” Liz said “No way!” said Ray “I should have been more respectful towards you and your feelings, and I’m really…..” He could hear Erin choke, and clear her voice. And with a shaky voice he said “and if this…..if this is to painful for us to…” he began to truly cry “for us to get back together can we at least be friends? Cause I……I really care for you Liz” “I need to talk to you personally, I’ll be over in a minute.”
A few minutes passed before Liz showed up at the door the first thing she did when Ray answered it was throw herself into a huge hug “sorry” she said . “I……I do want to get back together and I’m really sorry this had to happen, but I have one question…. Were you dancing with Samantha because she’s pretty? Or were you truly board with me?” Ray thought for a second “honestly I have no idea why I was dancing with her, You’re way prettier and you’ve got so many great qualities I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of you” “thank you…..” Liz said “for giving me……for giving us another chance.
